Studio Archeology at Joppa Glass
During my time at Joppa Glass studio I was involved in a project of the study of the techniques and technologies of ancient glass workers. Our interest focused on the glass makers of ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia. Using what we proved to be an authentic ancient method of ancient bead manufacturing I created a line of one of kind jewelry. As an evolution to our bead work Dudley Giberson and I began to work on methods of producing core vessels. These tiny ancient glass objects had mystic, there authentic methods of manufacture were unknown to the glass historians. Working with several experts in the field of ancient glass we produced a provable technique.
This practice shaped my studio philosophy of research based techniques. It also shaped my interest in technology.
